A guide on how to fill in a z83 form

Thousands of South Africans apply for vacancies every week and many application are rejected due to mistakes on z83 forms. Taking extra time to complete it correctly can increase your chances of being hired. To apply for a government in South Africa, you’re most likely to be required to fill in a z83 form and submit it with the supporting documents attached.

WHAT IS Z83 FORM?

A Z83 Form is an employment application form that is needed when applying for public service jobs in South Africa. Information is collected by the national and provincial government departments from the form in order for you to qualify for the applied vacancy.

WHAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW

  • It is crucial to always use a black pen when filling in the form,
  • The use of capital letter is crucial.
  • Avoid using scanned documents when submitting, instead use original photocopied documents and certify them.
  • The Department of Employment and Labour highlighted that in order for your application to stand out it, the application form should be completed in full.
  • The department further noted that the document must be completed by people with Identity Documents (ID) or official passports.
  • Mpendulo Sibiya shared on her TikTok page that people should be on the lookout for an app called ZAPP83 that makes applying an easy sport, it is also free to download.

Here’s a step by step guide

Section A: POSITION DETAILS

1.Position applied for: Write the exact job title and reference number from the advert.

2. Department where position was advertised: Write the full name of the department.

3. Salary level: You can leave it blank unless the adverts ask to state expected salary.

Section B: PERSONAL DETAILS

1.SA ID Number: Enter the correct 13 digits.

2. Gender, race, disability: For employment equity report, tick only one.

3. Contact details: Fill in the number and email you regularly use.

Section C: CONTACT DETAILS

1.Fill in your residential and postal address. Write “as above” if they are the same.

Section D: LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

1. Language proficiency: Tick “read, write, speak” for languages you are fluent in.

Section E: WORK EXPERIENCE

Work experience: List jobs from most recent backwards and include dates, employer, position, and key duties.

SECTION F: QUALIFICATIONS

Start with your highest qualification first including your Institution name, Qualification, Year obtained.

SECTION G: REFERENCE DETAILS

Give three contactable references. Include their name, relationship, full number and email

SECTION H: DECALARATION

1. Sign and date it.

2. Tick “yes” to a SA citizenship. If “no” add permit details.

DOCUMENTS TO ATTACH: Z83, CV, Certified copies of ID, Qualification and other documents listed in advert.
